Woman, three children die in Jefferson house fire
JEFFERSON – A woman and three children died in a house fire one mile east of Jefferson early Tuesday morning. Dead are Martha Yates, 61, Emmaline Scott, 10, Raymond Scott, 4, and Mitchell Scott, 2.

Akron men sentenced on burglary charges
ELK POINT - Two Akron, IA, men were sentenced recently in Union County Court to 20-year terms in the South Dakota Penitentiary for their roles in several burglaries in the area. The pair were arrested last March.
