About Us...

The Alcester Union & Hudsonite is a weekly newspaper serving northern Union County and southern Lincoln County in southeast South Dakota, and Sioux County is northwest Iowa.
The Alcester Union & Hudsonite serves as the newspaper of record for Union County, City of Alcester, Town of Hudson, and the Alcester-Hudson School District #61-1.
The Alcester Union began publishing in 1889, serving the Alcester community in north-central Union County, under publisher W.A. Kelly. The Hudsonite made its first appearance in 1901 under publisher Robert O. Schaber, serving the town of Hudson in southeastern Lincoln County.
The two newspapers served their communities individually until 2004, when they were combined and reformatted into the Alcester Union & Hudsonite.
Over the years the newspapers have won several awards. In 2006 the Alcester Union & Hudsonite won the "General Excellence" award in their circulation category at the South Dakota Newspaper Association's Better Newspapers Contest.
