The Alcester Union & Hudsonite is a weekly newspaper serving northern Union County and southern Lincoln County
in southeast South Dakota, and Sioux County is northwest Iowa.
- The Alcester Union & Hudsonite serves as the
newspaper of record for Union County, City of Alcester, Town of Hudson,
Alcester-Hudson School District #61-1, and the Greater Scott School District.
- The Alcester Union began publishing in 1889,
serving the Alcester community in north-central Union County, under publisher W.A. Kelly. The Hudsonite made its first
appearance in 1901 under publisher Robert O. Schaber, serving the town of
Hudson in southeastern Lincoln County.
- The two
newspapers served their communities individually until 2004, when they were
combined and reformatted into the Alcester Union & Hudsonite.
- Over the years
the newspapers have won several awards. In 2006 the Alcester Union &
Hudsonite won the "General Excellence" award in
their circulation category at the South Dakota Newspaper Association's Better
Newspapers Contest.
