Cubs open season Tuesday at Early Bird Quadrangular

The Alcester-Hudson Cubs open their season with the Early Bird Quadrangular in Elk Point next Tuesday. The Early Bird Quadrangular will open the wrestling season for Alcester-Hudson in Elk Point on Tuesday, December 1, against teams from Elk Point-Jefferson, West Sioux and Marion-Freeman, starting at 5:00 p.m.

Leading the Cubs this year will be the Merrick twins, Lance and Levi, who both placed third in the State Tournament last season. Both of the sophomores and will be joined by fellow classmates and letter winners Derrick Lundberg and Rick Heiman, who both placed third at Districts last season.

Casey Reihe, a freshman, and Erik Barnes, an eighth grader, round out the letter winners from last season. Back from last year’s squad are freshman Austin Osterkamp and eighth graders Austin Schuller and Andrew Ter Wee.

Newcomers this season are sophomore Sawyer Jacobsen and seventh graders Jaylen Cole, Dominic Wilson, Preston Dooley, Collin Walth and Trenton Schoenberner.

Alcester-Hudson will host two Quadrangulars this season. The first will be held on December 15th against Dakota Valley, Scotland and Tri-Valley, and the second on January 26th against Bon Homme, Marion-Freeman and Mitchell JV.

The Cubs will be in the following tournaments during the regular season; Chester on December 8, Elk Point-Jefferson on December 19, Webster on December 29, West Sioux on January 9, Big Sioux Tournament on January. 23 in Tri-Valley, and Lawton-Bronson on January. 30.

The Cubs will wrestle against Akron-Westfield and West Sioux in Akron on January 10. Other Quads are in Garretson on January 14, in Canton on February 4, and the Cubs close the regular season in a Double Dual in Tri-Valley against the Mustangs and Dell Rapids on February 5.

The road to State starts on Feb. 13 with Districts in Marion, the Regions on Feb. 20 at McCook Central in Salem, and the State Tournament in Sioux Falls on Feb. 26 & 27.
