Fire damages rural Alcester home
ALCESTER – Fire caused extensive damage to the kitchen area of a rural Alcester home early last Friday evening. Darren Moerman was making supper when he decided to make a quick trip into Alcester to pick something up. Moerman said he turned down the burner on the stove, hopped in his car and drove the 2 miles into town, where he made a quick purchase. When he returned minutes later he saw smoke coming from the home as he pulled in the driveway.
Beeck graduates from Partners in Policymaking
SIOUX FALLS - Alcester chiropractor Valere Beeck of rural Akron was one of twenty-six individuals to successfully complete Year 16 of South Dakota Partners in Policymaking and graduated on April 12, 2008 at the Ramada Inn & Suites in Sioux Falls. The class motto was “Changing Perceptions….Opening Minds.”
Former Beresford woman produces musical
BROOKINGS - GROUP became the first locally written musical produced as part of SDSU’s Mainstage Season. Then, it was the best-selling studio show in the history of SDSU Theater. Now, another exciting step for the musical GROUP occurs as it becomes the first production to go from Brookings to the Sioux Falls Washington Pavilion, and possibly beyond.
State Librarian visits Hudson; Hudson Book Club meets monthly
HUDSON - The recently formed book club at Hudson, officially named the Hudson Book Club, meets once a month at the library.  The club has recently changed their meeting date from the last Thursday of the month to the third Monday of the month at 7:00 p.m.

Park clean-up scheduled for May 7
The Alcester Park Board is sponsoring a city park cleanup on Wednesday, May 7 at 5:00 p.m.
This is co-sponsored by Thrivent Financial for Lutherans, who will provide funds for park improvement if the project includes both adult and youth workers. Any help we could get from citizens, including our youth ,would be greatly appreciated.
All you need to do is show up at the city park with a rake.  Snacks will be provided.
