HUDSON - The Hudson Public Library has recently moved in to a new location just east of the Hudson Post Office.  An open house for the public was held on Saturday, December 1, 2007, to give everyone a chance to view the new facility.
The Hudson Public Library was originally organized in 1922 by the Women’s Study Club, with the American Legion Auxiliary joining the Study Club in sponsoring the library in 1936.  The library opened in the old Community Building, but do to growth, was moved to the Bradley Estate Building. Then in January of 1938 it was moved to the former Colman building and remained there until November of 2007.  It was then moved to the current location, formerly known as Rogness Supply, or in most recent years as The Hudson Furniture Store.
Thanks to a lot of volunteer time from the Hudson Town Board, present Study Club members, and other local volunteers, the shelving and books were relocated to the present building.  Along with the move came many improvements to the library.  An additional computer was added and the children’s section improved.  Plans are already being made for a children’s reading program.
The library also has added a seating area in the library and as a celebration of the opening of the new library a Book Club has been started.  The club meets the last Thursday of every month at 7:00 p.m., and everyone is welcome.  If you would like more information on the Book Club please contact Marcella Paulson at (605)984-2264.
Thanks to generous contributions the library has received, the library hopes to continue to add additional computer service and books.  The library most recently received a contribution from the Hudson Farmers Elevator and matching funds from Land O Lakes. The library has also received donations for purchasing new books as well as supplies to upgrade the looks of the building.  Anyone wishing to contribute to the library can contact the library board or any of the librarians.
At the present time the Hudson Library has three librarians who would be more than happy to assist in locating reference materials, helping with Internet service and locating any other materials or books.
Library hours have now been extended to include Monday and Friday from 12:00 to 6:00 p.m., Wednesdays from 2:00 until 8:00 p.m., and Saturdays from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
