Bolin announces candidacy for District 16 House
CANTON – Jim Bolin of Canton has announced that he will run for the South Dakota House of Representatives in District 16.
Bolin currently serves as Mayor of Canton, in addition to his teaching duties at Canton High School. He also served as Athletic Director from 1996 to 2007.
Bolin, a Republican, says he has pledged to bring the same integrity and competence to the Legislature that he brought to the City of Canton.
“It is important that we have decisive and competent leadership in the Legislature,” Bolin said. “We must achieve solutions to nagging problems that afflict us, but keep taxes in check.”
Bolin and his wife, Ruth, have two adult sons. He is a graduate of the University of South Dakota with a Master’s Degree in History.
District 16 currently has two open seats in the South Dakota Legislature. Maggie Gillespie (D-Hudson) recently finished her final term and will not be able to run in the South Dakota House due to term limits, and Joel Dykstra of Canton is challenging Sen. Tim Johnson for his seat in Washington.
