- Beeck graduates from Partners in Policymaking

(Submitted photo)- SIOUX FALLS - Alcester chiropractor Valere Beeck of rural Akron was one of twenty-six individuals to successfully complete Year 16 of South Dakota Partners in Policymaking and graduated on April 12, 2008 at the Ramada Inn & Suites in Sioux Falls. The class motto was “Changing Perceptions….Opening Minds.”
- The state-wide leadership, empowerment training analyzes developmental disability issues and builds skills that consumers, parents, and guardians need to effectively obtain the most appropriate state-of-the-art services for themselves and others and participate in decision-making situations.
- Jack Mortenson of Mitchell, DWU professor & President of SD Coalition of Citizens with Disabilities Board, told the over 250 people who attended the 16th annual graduation for Partners in Policymaking, “I love these gatherings—so many powerful people in one place. Such a variety of people with so many abilities.”
- Partners in Policymaking in South Dakota is sponsored in part by grants from the South Dakota Council on Developmental Disabilities, Children’s Care Hospital and School, Center for Disabilities at Sanford School of Medicine at USD, and South Dakota Parent Connection. Other funding sources include the Developmental Disabilities Program, Mental Health Program and Individual Rights Program of South Dakota Advocacy Services.
- The training program in South Dakota is conducted by SD Advocacy Services (SDAS). Sandy Stocklin Hook of Pierre is the project coordinator for the statewide training course.
