Scary movies-why oh why do they make them because they scare me! My sister hates killer movies so I take her to them as much as I can because it is more fun to watch her than it is the movie! Imagine your hand in front of your face with a small space open between your fingers peering out at the big screen, that is my sister. Her husband and I took her to the new movie "3:10 to Yuma" and what a show. There were more bullets flying than Carter has pills. Fantastic but she wasn't impressed. The other night we went to "The Brave One" with Jodi Foster. I was going to let her sleep through it (she tends to doze off and she actually pays money to do it) but there was so much action there was no closing her peepers and getting away with it. You have to go see that one, it is a great movie. Hey, maybe I could get a job doing those movie critic choices! Millage and Ebert, or was it Siskell? Either way I love movies and scary or not I'm up for it!
Speaking of scary we are soon approaching that bewitching month! My favorite of course, just love Halloween. But back to September and our last week's activities. Sunday morning we listened to the taped service provided by Nathanael Lutheran Church and delivered by Gladys Mollett. Monday morning Linda Glas played card bingo with the gang and they had a great time. In the afternoon they were busy with a spelling bee competition. Rosary was held with Donna Anderberg and Vivian Schumacher in the chapel for our Catholic residents. Tuesday morning I was the host for bible study and we always have good interaction and a great lesson together. I think my residents teach me a thing or two instead of the other way around. Connie Lundberg and Margaret Lundeen painted fingernails for the ladies followed by wonderful music with Lillian Solbue. Pastor Renee from Nathanael Lutheran Church came in to serve communion to a large group gathered in the chapel. Wednesday morning I read story time to the group. Caregivers held a meeting in the chapel while we had bingo called by Jamie VanderSchaaf. Helpers were lone Larsen and Margaret Lundeen. Bingo was sponsored in honor of me by JoAnn and Lowell Duncan. So sweet of them and very generous too. Thank you both! We checked e-mail accounts after bingo. Thursday morning we were bouncing our toes to the music of Violet Siemers playing piano. In the afternoon my team and I got creamed in wheel chair baseball by Alice Berg's Slugs (ok-they were really called the sluggers but hey, its my newsletter-haha-so I can call names if I wanna!) They beat us by one run and I have to say I lost the game. Don't tell anybody. We enjoyed church service with Donna and Roger Anderson from Alcester Baptist Church. The ladies aid provided treats for coffee time also. Friday morning we had a creature from the wild for pet therapy. My dog Satchell Paige came in and he is a 6 lb. Yorkie that spins in circles. Everybody loved him and I got dizzy watching him spin but a good time was had by all the people we visited. In the afternoon we loved listening to Troy Mader play guitar and sing for us. On Saturday Total Stop Foods provided a movie for us free of charge. We watched "Because I said so" and the residents really enjoyed it. Up-coming events:1) Yolanda and Lennea Clark perform on 9/27 @ 2:00 p.m.2) Happy hour on Friday 9/28 @ 2:00 p.m. Stop by for this will be my last day at Morningside Care Center. I have accepted a new position at Hillcrest Care Center in Hawarden. This will be my last goofy newsletter but I have certainly enjoyed all of the wonderful comments that all of you give me when you read it. It has been my pleasure serving the community of Alcester for the past 24 years. With much love....Lisa Millage |
