Ardas Eidsness Ardas Eidsness, 93, of Sioux Falls, formerly of Alcester, died Monday, December 31, 2007 at Southridge Health Care Center Memory Lane in Sioux Falls. A memorial service was held January 9, at Nathanael Lutheran Church in Alcester. Ardas Cassandra Evanson was born January 21, 1914, to Philip and Maude Blumer Evanson, in Eden Township, Lincoln County, SD. She attended country school and graduated from Hudson High School at the age of 15. She attended Augustana College and later completed her education at the University of South Dakota.On December 17, 1933, Ardas married Trygve Eidsness, also of rural Hudson, at the farm home of her parents. The couple resided on farms in the Alcester-Hudson area and also lived in Hawarden, IA. After Tryg’s death in 1967, Ardas moved to Alcester and lived there until moving to Sioux Falls to live with a daughter.As well as being a busy farm wife and mother, Ardas taught rural school in Lincoln and Union Counties. After retiring from teaching she worked at Morningside Manor in Alcester. She was a member of Nathanael Lutheran Church in Alcester and was active in church and community activities. She was a gardener, a decorator, an artist and musician, a baker of bread and pies, and needlewoman, a traveler, and a collector, especially of Majolica.Ardas is survived by four daughters: Patricia (Raymond) Peters of Sioux Falls; Mary Ehrichs of Austin, TX; Lauralee Hegg of Garden Grove, CA; and Margaret (Vinod) Bhatara of Sioux Falls; ten grandchildren; nine great- grand children; a sister, Marian Hanson of Whitewater, WI; and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Trygve; her son, Owen; and her parents, a sister, and a brother. |
