Ella Alvina (Fischer) Milberg Ella (Fischer) Milberg, formally of Alcester, died Friday, February 1, 2008 in La Mesa, California, near San Diego. Ella Fischer was born January 16, 1913 in Sioux Falls, the daughter of Robert Emil and Clara Elizabeth (Ludwig) Fischer of Alcester. Ella grew up in Alcester on the family farm and attended a country one room school. After several family trips to Southern California as a young girl, her family moved to Long Beach, CA in the 1930’s.After finishing Business School and working for Sears Roebuck & Company in Long Beach, Ella married Donald William Milberg on July 3, 1938. Together they raised three children in the Los Angeles area: Donnella, John & Robert. She had 14 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.Over her lifetime she volunteered at a Long Beach blood bank, was active in the PTA (where she served as President), Cub Scout den leader and as a Hospice volunteer for 18 years. In 1974, at retirement, she and her husband Don moved to Paradise, CA where she resided until November, 2007 when she moved to assisted living to be nearer to her sons in La Mesa, CA.In addition to her volunteer work she was an accomplished china painter, expert gardener and a great cook. She loved to tell stories of growing up in South Dakota, her move to California and her many, many friends and relatives.She is survived by her sons and their wives, her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. |
