- Fern L. Kluter
- Fern L. Kluter, 87, of Hawarden, passed away peacefully on Monday, June 4, 2007 at the Hillcrest Health Care Center in Hawarden, IA, with her family present. Funeral servicees were held June 7 at the United Church of Christ in Alcester, with Rev. Tim Worthington officiating. Burial was held in the Grace Hill Cemetery in Hawarden.
- Fern Lois Steinfadt Kluter was born near Ireton, IA, on March 28, 1920, to John and Jennie (McPherson) Steinfadt. Fern graduated from the Hawarden High School in 1938. She attended the Western Union College (Westmar) for training to become a teacher. She graduated in 1942. She taught in rural schools northeast of Hawarden until she married in 1956.
- On October 14, 1956 she married Arthur Kluter, a farmer near Ireton. They farmed in that area until moving to Hawarden in 1975.
- Fern enjoyed cooking, planting flowers, and going on family vacations. Her greatest joy in life was spending time with her family.
- Fern was preceded in death by her parents and her husband Arthur on January 12, 1986. Among those who survive and gratefully shared her life are her two daughters, Jennie and her husband Vance Shoemaker and their 4 daughters, Jessica, Marni, Mallory, and Andrea of Hawarden; and Olive and her husband Michael Scott and their 2 children, Sarah and Adam of Alcester.
