Steven Hanson
Steven Hanson, 54, of Alcester, died Sunday, June 10, 2007, at Sanford Health Care in Sioux Falls after a long battle with cancer. Memorial services were held June 14 at Wass Funeral Home in Alcester, with burial following at the Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Alcester.
Steven Keith Hanson was born March 13, 1953 in Beresford, to Ken and Marilyn (Schempp) Hanson. He attended grade school in Centerville, and middle and high school in Colton, CA. After graduation, Steve came to Alcester and worked at Sioux Fertilizer in Hawarden, IA.
He was married to Jan Lefler in 1973. He later returned to California where he worked construction for many years. Steve returned to the Alcester area in 1995 and worked for several farmers and did many miscellaneous jobs. He was a meat cutter at Total Stop and was most recently employed by Homandberg Electric, a job he enjoyed very much, until cancer made it impossible to work.
Steve had a talent for being an A-1 mechanic. He enjoyed spending time with his friends and family and was always ready for a friendly game of cards.
Survivors include his father, Ken and his wife, Phyllis of Jonesboro, AR; son, Nick and his wife, Karen; daughter Colleen; three grandchildren, Halle Marie, Jacob Charles and Ashley Christine; three brothers, David and his wife, Linda of Pocahontas, AR, Kenny Dale of Pocahontas, AR and Kevin of Jonesboro, AR; and one sister, Nancy and her husband, Marvin of Victorville, CA.
His grandparents, John and Doris Schempp, and Lars and Alma Hanson; his mother, Marilyn; and a special friend, Kathy Jensen, preceded him in death.
