- Harold Stephenson
Harold Eugene Stephenson, 81, of Alcester, passed away Sunday, July 1, 2007 at Sanford Health Care in Sioux Falls. Funeral services were held July 7 at the United Methodist Church in Hawarden, IA, with Rev. Tim Walker officiating. Burial followed in the Grace Hill Cemetery in Hawarden with Military Rites by the VFW Post 6149 of Alcester.- Harold Eugene Stephenson was born February 4, 1926 at Chatsworth, IA, the son of Harry and Julia (Jepsen) Stephenson. He attended school in Union County, SD and Sioux County, IA. He graduated from Hawarden High School in 1944. He served in the US Army during the Korean War.
- Harold worked for Van Buskirk Construction for 15 years. He helped to build the Kansas Turnpike and the Norton Dam. In 1967 he started farming the family farm west of Alcester.
- Harold married Phyllis Jurgensen Warner on September 15, 1972 and together they raised her children. He retired from farming in 1990 but continued to live on the family farm until moving to Alcester in 2005.
- Harold was a lifetime member and past Chaplain of the VFW Post 6149 of Alcester, and a member of the United Methodist Church in Hawarden. He loved being with family and having coffee with friends.
- Survivors include his wife, Phyllis, of Alcester; four sons, David Warner and wife Michelle of Alcester, Darrell Warner and wife Rachele of Sioux Center, IA, Tim Warner and wife Cathy of Mountain Grove, MO, and Terry Warner and wife Stephanie of Sioux Falls; a daughter, Cindy Peterson of Alcester; and 11 grandchildren.
- He was preceded in death by his parents and son, Douglas Warner, on March 20, 2004.
