Douglas L. Steinfadt
U.S. VeteranDouglas Steinfadt, 59 of Sioux Falls, died Monday, August 6, 2007 at Sanford Health following a 3 month illness.
Douglas L. Steinfadt was born July 31, 1948 in Hudson, South Dakota to Orland and Darlene (Vipond) Steinfadt. He grew up in the Hudson area where he received his education, graduating from Hudson High School in 1966. Following he attended college at the University of South Dakota at Springfield. In January of 1969, he entered the military and served in the U.S. Army, stationed in Frankfort, Germany. In April of 1971, he received his honorable discharge with the rank of Sergeant. On October 9, 1971 he was united in marriage to Peggy Torberson of Canton, SD. He began his career at Sioux Valley Hospital in April of 1971 unloading trucks in the receiving area. Over the years Doug worked his way up in the Sioux Valley (Sanford) organization and became the Systems Director of Materials Management for Sanford Health. He was working at his current position at the time of his death. Doug had been a proud member of the Sanford organization for over 36 years. Doug was an active member of several organizations, including: the V.H.A., the American Legion Post 15, the Masons Jeptha Lodge #121 of Hudson, SD, the Sioux Falls Scottish Rite and the El Riad Shrine Temple since 1978 of which he was a part of the Directors Staff. Doug was also a past member of Unity Lodge #130 of Sioux Falls.
Times spent on the farm in Sioux County, IA with his grandfather, Emil Steinfadt were some of Doug’s most enjoyable childhood memories. In recent years Doug spent time with his grandchildren, having shared a very special bond with his grandson Will.
Grateful for having shared his life are his wife, Peggy Steinfadt; three daughters, Laura (Brian) Sibson, Ann (Adam) Hanisch, and Rebecca (Eric) Roskup, all of Sioux Falls, SD; two grandchildren, William and Kaitlin Sibson; his mother, Darlene Steinfadt, of Sioux Falls, SD; two sisters, Catherine (Mark) Evanson, of Carmel, IN and Deborah (Scott) Nielsen of Brookings, SD; and his brother, Timothy Steinfadt, of Sioux Falls, SD. He was preceded in death by his father, Orland Steinfadt in 1997.
Funeral services will be 10:30 am Friday at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church. Interment will be at Woodlawn Cemetery, Sioux Falls, SD. Visitation on Thursday with the family present will begin at 5:00 pm with a prayer service starting at 7:00 pm at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Sanford Children’s Hospital in memory of Doug.
