- Gordon M. Bjork
- Gordon M. Bjork, 84, died at the Madison Community Hospital in Madison on August 16, 2007. Funeral services were held August 18 at the Weiland Funeral Chapel in Madison with Rev. Robert Vinslauski officiating, with burial following in the church cemetery.
- Gordon was born June 12, 1923 in Alcester to Sven and Ann (Hemmelrick) Bjork. He married Magdalen Schons at Luverne, MN on July 22, 1946. She preceded him in death in 2004.
- He grew up in Alcester, graduating from Alcester High School where he participated in track and band. He attended Northern State College in Aberdeen and received a Bachelor Degree in History from Dakota State College in 1974. He played in various local dance bands including Danny Kealey, Six Fat Dutchmen, Jimmy Barnett and Sammy Jensen Orchestra. He taught in Wabasso, MN and Rutland, SD, where he was band director from 1965 to 1984. After he retired from teaching he worked for Interlake Community Action where he drove the Head Start bus until 2006.
- He is survived by four sons; Tim (Bonnie) of Pierre, Greg (Deb) of Ft. Collins, CO, Pat of Bismarck, ND, and Eric (Pam) of Stockett, MT; two daughters, Mary and Nancy Bjork, both of Omaha; three grandchildren, six great-grandchildren; one sister, Betty Kviudahl of Anaheim, CA; and a friend, Dar Algar.
