Fran SmithFran Smith, 90, of Hudson, died on Tuesday, Nov. 13, 2007 at Hudson Healthcare Center. Funeral services were held November 16 at Hudson Lutheran Church.Frances Marie Lentz was born to Frank and Emma (Braune) Lentz on Sept. 22, 1917 at a farm near Mt. Vernon, SD. As a child, her family farmed at several locations in South Dakota before settling in Mitchell, where she attended high school. On Oct. 6, 1936, Fran was united in marriage to Rex Smith in Sioux Falls. After living on the family farm for ten years, they moved to a farm near Hudson, where they made their home for nearly fifty years, and raised a family of five children. In 1984, they moved to their current residence in Hudson. Fran was a gentle, devoted mother and homemaker who delighted in the activities and accomplishments of her family. She was a member of Hudson Lutheran Church and active in WELCA there. Fran enjoyed trips to the Black Hills and to numerous family gatherings.She will be forever lovingly remembered by her husband, Rex; sons, Murray (Donna Kjonaas) and Gene (Ann), both of Sioux Falls, and Rod (Marie) of Gering, NE; daughter, Denise (Doug) Van't Hof of Hudson; daughter-in-law Geraldine Smith of Hawarden, IA; 18 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and sister, Gladys Moe of Sioux Falls. She was preceded in death by her parents; infant son, Darrell Patrick; son, Jerome (Jerry); brothers, Charles and Fred Lentz; sisters, Elsie Blom and Myrtle Smith. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Hudson Lutheran Church WELCA. |
