(Photo by Paul Buum, Editor/Publisher) The Alcester-Hudson boys’ basketball team participated in the Tri-Valley Conference tourney this past week. The Cubs were edged in close games all three contests, with the battle for seventh place in Alcester going into overtime.In the opening game of the tourney, Alcester-Hudson lost to Bloomfield, Neb., 47 to 43 with the Cubs holding a one point lead at the half and a two point after three quarter. Todd Anderson led the Cubs in third quarter scoring with five points, while Eric Beeler had five points in the second quarter.For the game, Trent Neu had 10 points, while Todd Anderson added seven points and Eric Anderson had six points, on two, three point field goals in the first period. Eric Beeler and Eric Tabbert each had five points with Matt Schempp and Austin Skoglund getting four points apiece. Jon Rodriguez had two free throws.In game two, the Cubs lost to Freeman Academy, 54 to 53 with the Cubs ahead at the end of three quarters. Trent Neu led the Cubs in scoring with 15 points of which eleven came in the first half. Eric Anderson scored nine points, all in the second half. Todd Anderson scored his eight points, in the first and third quarters. Matt Schempp put in eight points while Eric Tabbert added six points. Austin Skoglund had four points and Eric Beeler hit a three-point field goal.
In the overtime game against Gayville-Volin, the Cubs led 20 to 14 after the first quarter and held a three-point lead, 37 to 34. A six-point turn around gave Gayville-Volin a three-point lead, 53 to50 after three quarters. Matt Schempp made the tying three-point field goal at 68 all with four-tenths of a second left. The Cubs got a three pointer from Eric Anderson in the overtime, while Matt Schempp and Eric Tabbert each got a two-point field goal in the overtime. In the first quarter of the game, Todd Anderson scored seven points as the Cubs benefited from a full court and the Raiders top scorer, Casey Nelson getting in foul trouble. The Raiders made a run in the second quarter, but Matt Schempp’s seven points kept the Cubs in the lead.In the second half, Jon Rodriguez led the Cubs in scoring with nine points.Leading the Cubs in scoring was Matt Schempp with 17 points while Todd Anderson and Trent Neu each added 13 points. Eric Tabbert scored 11 points with Jon Rodriguez put in nine points. Scoring five points was Eric Anderson and Eric Beeler had two points. |
