(Submitted photo) BERESFORD – On Saturday, March 15, the District Ten wrestling tournament was held at Beresford. This is the first of two competitions to qualify for the State Tournament.Wrestlers who advance from Districts move on to the Regional tournament, which is scheduled for Saturday, March 29, at Hartford. At Regions, only the top three wrestlers from each division and weight class will advance on to the State Tournament at Rapid City to be held April 4-6.Ten Alcester Hudson Youth Wrestlers were matside and ready to wrestle Saturday morning. Wrestling started at 10 am and was completed by 2 pm. Rick Heiman wrestled at 120 lbs. in the 14 year old bracket to bring home first place. Seventh grader Casey Reihe wrestled three times at the 95 lb weight class. Casey recorded two wins, one by a pin and one by decision. Casey’s only loss was by a decision in a match that went into double overtime. At the Sixth Grade level, Austin Schuller and Erik Barnes were back in action. Austin placed second and Erik placed first. Three Second Graders were on hand; Cash Hemmingson, Zack McKee and Connor Sogn. Cash and Zack both had empty brackets with no one to wrestle. They each had an automatic first place. Connor Sogn was busy again wrestling in a five man bracket. Connor finished in fourth place.Brandon Schuller and Trevor Stene were hard at work in the First Grader’s bracket. Brandon had three wins, two by pin and one by decision to give him a first place finish. Trevor wrestled twice with one pin and one loss for a second place finish. Sterling Hillmer was the only kindergartener on the team wrestling and came home with a fourth place finish.By the end of the tournament, all the wrestlers had put forth a great effort and were ready to go home. All ten of the Alcester Hudson Youth Wrestlers will be moving on to the Regional Tournament. |
