Cubs sweep Eagles in golf

The Alcester-Hudson golf teams swept the first three places in a dual meet with the Irene-Wakonda Eagles in Alcester on Thursday.
For the boy’s team, Carl Serck was first with a nine hole score of 42, while Trent Neu was second with a score of 43. Tyler Vernard placed third with a 44.
For the girl’s team, Julia Brown was first with a score of 44, while Taylor Huber was second with a 48 and Lindsey Schempp was third with a score of 50.
In addition, Damian Schouten and Nathan Johnson each shot a 48 for the boys, and Leah Rommerreim shot a 54 and Carmen Borns shot a 57 for the girls.
The boy’s JV was led by Travis Terpstra with a 50 for an overall finish of second in the dual, followed by Andrew Braaten with a 52, which was good for third. Matt Koenig shot a 62, DJ Schouten shot a 63, Kody Bratzel shot a 72 and Cody Christensen shot an 86. For the girl’s JV squad, Kelby VanWyk was second with a 57 and Jayme McKee shot a 69.
The boy’s varsity team won the dual 177 to 186, while the girl’s varsity team won 196 to 233.
Earlier in the week, also on the Cubs home course, Julia Brown and Taylor Huber were 1-2 as Alcester-Hudson won a dual, 202 to 232, with Akron-Westfield.
Brown shot a 46 and Huber shot a 47. Also Schempp shot a 52 and Rommereim shot a 57.
For the boys, Neu was fourth with a 44 and Serck was sixth with a 45. Vernard followed with a 48, while Johnson shot a 49. Braaten shot a 57 and Schouten shot a 58.
The girl’s JV team had McKee with a 65 and Michelle Havlin with an 80.
The boy’s JV team had Terpstra shooting a 53, DJ Schouten shooting a 66, Bratzel shooting an 80 and Christensen shooting an 81.
