Students honored for achievements

Students from Alcester-Hudson were honored on Friday night for their achievements in athletics, fine arts and service organizations.
At the annual banquet, Curtis Nielsen won scholarships from the Ministerial Association, Lions Club, one of the banquet’s sponsors and the Alcester-Hudson Education Association. Rebecca Lykken won scholarships from Beta Sorority, one of the banquet’s sponsors, from the School board and Blue Jean, which is from the teachers. Eric Tabbert won scholarships from Alpha Sorority, one of the banquet’s sponsors, and a Blue Jean. Dominic Osterloh won a Beta Sorority scholarship. Todd Anderson from the Ministerial Association.
Emily Beeler and Carl Serck won the Alcester-Hudson Athletic Booster Club scholarship, one of the banquet’s sponsors. Trent Neu won a Blue Jean scholarship.
Wrestling awards went to Carl Serck, Alex Merrick and Levi Merrick for Big Sioux All Conference and state place finishers. Serck also for All State All Academic, State Champ and team most wins, most pins and most takedowns. Alex Merrick for team reversals.
Volleyball awards went to Mallory Schempp for Tri-Valley All Conference, first team and offensive most valuable for the team. Andrea Jansen for Tri-Valley All Conference, first team and the team hustler award. Emily Schreur for most improved and Megan Wood for Tri-Valley honorable mention all conference.
Track awards from last year’s squad went to Megan Wood and Chris Day, field events, Michelle Selchert and Eric Tabbert, newcomer, Dominic Osterloh and Sarah Haisch, sprints, Corey Haisch and Hailey Kleinhans, distance.
One third of the student body was honored for being on the Academic Honor Awards which is for students achieving a 3.25 GPA in a semester. Also honored were the National Honor Society students who have a 3.0 GPA and do 20 hours of community service.
The Quiz Bowl team won the Tri-Valley Conference quiz bowl competition. In Oral Inter, the Readers Theatre won a superior at the state level, while Kelsey Johannsen and Dominic Osterloh won a superior for the duet and Johannsen won a superior for prose.
The high school band and chorus will present their spring concert on May 9th at the high school.
Cheerleading award for most improved went to Jessica Ronning and outstanding cheerleader went to Angela Hazel.
Golf award from last years squad went to Julia Brown and Trent Neu for most valuable.
Basketball awards went to Megan Wood for most steals and Tri-Valley All Conference second team. Mallory Schempp for free throw shooting of 55 -72 for 76% and second team all Tri-Valley Conference. Julia Brown for most assists and honorable mention all conference on a team that finished 5-2 in loop play. Boys basketball awards went to Eric Tabbert for free throw shooting of 44-73 for 60%. Trent Neu, most rebounds, Todd Anderson, most steals and Matt Schempp, most assists and honorable mention, all Tri-Valley Conference.
Football awards went to Trent Neu, most valuable line, Carl Serck, most valuable back, Eric Tabbert, most improved, All Academic All State, Neu and Serck. Friend of Football award went to Tom Rhead. The football team placed seven on the all conference squad as the team took second in the conference.
FFA had two representatives at the National Convention, Jessica Ronning and Leah Rommereim. Two State FFA degree, Corey Haisch and Rebecca Lykken. Two reps at State Choir in Sarah Haisch and Ronning. FCCLA had 32 of 36 members involved in events at the state meeting.
Cross Country awards went to Sarah Haisch for most valuable and most improved. Eric Beeler and most valuable and Eric Berg for most improved.
